ABOUT ABOUT

Presented by ARTISTS HEAL ™ & The Black Theatre Alliance of Philadelphia

With the return to auditions, performance and the inevitable working conditions of PWIs -- The Black Theatre Alliance of Philadelphia (BTAP) wants to prioritize the wellbeing of our fellow Black theatre artists navigating this time -- the hustle is definitely skewed, and we acknowledge this imbalance. BTAP would like to provide an environment for Black artists to find balance within themselves and around each other -- to be rejuvenated together and armed with tools to replenish their cup.

Partnering with Noelle Diane Johnson, Owner and Founder of ARTISTS HEAL™ to lead and facilitate Reset & Restore workshops is just one step to providing care for our community.

IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR ME?

 A few questions to consider:

Am I a Black Theatre Artist living in the Greater Philadelphia region?

Do I create art through theatre and collaborative art-making? For myself? For others?

Have I experienced harm while engaging in theatre particularly within or in service to Predominantly White Institutions/Spaces/Audiences?

Do these experiences affect the way that I engage in theatre and collaborative art-making currently?

Would I like to find community and fellowship with other Black Theatre Artists in Philadelphia as I embark on a journey towards healing and Self-liberation?

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS WORKSHOP??

THE ULTIMATE GOAL IS HEALING…

Many Black Artists have found that Predominantly White Institutions (PWI’s) or majority White spaces are not able to provide the support that many Black Theatre Artists are seeking when art-making. ARTISTS HEAL™ workshops provide that support, community, and practical tools to incorporate into your artistic and healing practice.  ARTISTS HEAL™ facilitates a space that encourages Black Theatre Artists to embrace Self-liberation, vulnerability, and empowerment as we continue to embody Blackness and the many intersections of marginalization.

WHY ARE THESE WORKSHOPS EXCLUSIVELY FOR BLACK FOLX??

Restorative Justice.

Reset & Restore workshops provide Black-only identified spaces for Black folx to explore and excavate aspects of Self and their experiences that some find difficult to access in the presence of non-Black folx. This workshop is designed to empower Black Theatre Artists by facilitating spaces that encourage a return to our body’s natural state, freedom from the bondage of trauma, and access to new pathways that lead to healing.

WHAT WILL I GET FROM THIS WORKSHOP???

Thinking about coming? Here’s what you’ll get!

A Black identified space designed to encourage Self-liberation and support Black Theatre Artists on their respective journeys.

An opportunity to be in community with other Black Theatre Artists embarking on a healing journey.

Trauma-informed, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, Somatic, and Consent-based tools for Black Theatre Artists to incorporate into their artistic practice.

An understanding of the role of personal and collective healing when it comes to artistic practice and collaborative art-making.

Special thanks to the Staritch Foundation for providing the funding to support his program.
